Medium & Large Bonsai TreesBaby Jade - Stone Landscape Scene (portulacaria afra) The rocks selected for this unusual arrangement are imported and washed in acid, making them strikingly unique. We then cut and cement the rocks to one side of the pot and create an ample well on the opposite side to hold water. A ceramic bridge is cemented to the rocks on either side. A pagolda figurine is also added and cemented to the stone located above the bridge. To complete the scene, we cement a miniature, glazed, mud figurine fisherman overlooking the water, holding a fishing pole and fish. On the opposite side of the restful scene, we have selected for planting, the Baby Jade. This succulent bonsai, also known as the "Elephant Bush", is native to South Africa and has pale green leaves that are almost round and about one-third the size of the common Jade plant. The fleshy trunk, branches and leaves are used to store water. An excellent indoor bonsai tree, great for home or office. 7 years old. 10" tall. Potted in a 14" green fluted oval container as shown. It has been cultivated and sculptured over the ball which cannot be removed without cutting the branches. Podocarpus - Large (podocarpus macrophyllus) AKA Buddhist Pine or Chinese Yew. Podocarpus is a dense evergreen with pointed, leathery, dark green leaves arranged on stiff, symmetrical branches. The tree which is unisexual, has male flowers in cones and female flowers composed of cylindrical thickened scales. The fruits often edible, are pedunculate, fleshy and brightly colored. New foliage comes in a light green color that turns darker with age. Our trees are trained in the traditional bonsai style. Green Emerald Ficus Twist (ficus microcarpa) Also known as the Green Island Ficus. Has oval to roundish dark green shiny leaves. Easily forms rosetts at the end of it's branches if kept trimmed. Branches and fruits well and easily develops aerial roots if kept humid. Different than other ficus varieties in that the leaves are much thicker. Three trees braided together to form the trunk of this unique ficus tree. Does well in lower or higher lighting conditions. One of our favorites. Shipped via UPS 2-3 days - $29.95 Divi Divi Tree (caesalpinia coriaria) Native to Aruba and Cuacao the Divi Divi is a small thornless very slow growing tree whose seed pods are a source of tanin. It has very small (less than 1/2" long) evergreen foliage. The small flowers appear in terminal clusters and are very fragrant. The creamy blooms are very sweet and pretty, but it is the bright colored copper and pink new growth that really attracts attention. Great for indoors. 8 years old. 17"-19" tall. Shimpaku is a naturally irregular vase shaped Juniper which we have trained in the traditional bonsai style. The Shimpaku has attractive year round foliage and its dark green needles are soft to the touch. Very popular and easy to care for bonsai. 7 years old. 8" tall. Hawaiian Umbrella Tree - Large (arboricola schefflera) This is the tree that we recommend if you are inexperienced with bonsai or you do not have a green thumb. The texture of the trunk looks and feels scaly, like the foot of an elephant and is also known as Elephants Foot. The extraordinary thickening of the trunk serves as a water reservoir against dry spells, allowing the tree to go up to 10-14 days without water causing no ill effects. Hokkaido Elm-Small (ulmus parvifolia 'hokkaido') Native to Japan and Korea, the Hokkaido Elm is a Chinese Elm, not troubled by the Dutch Elm disease that has destroyed so many other species. It is extremely slow growing and will only grow to 36" tall in nature. The Hokkaido forms a rugged trunk with a corky bark that flakes off in rounded plates. This cultivar of Ulmus has the tiniest leaf of all Elms (only 3/8" long) and they are short-stalked, oval with a slightly pointed tip and toothed margins, bright green on the upper surface, lighter green underneath.
